Xenodocheio Milos Hotel

The service was great, from the welcoming and professional front desk and bell staff to a spacious, beautiful room with an amazing balcony and view. The new hotel is very central, which made everything convenient. Still, at this price, I expected more. The lobby is tiny, and there’s no gym, rooftop, or other extra facilities. We booked partly because the hotel is built around the world-renowned Milos restaurant and added breakfast. The breakfast was very basic and continental: some bread, a croissant, coffee, and orange juice. Anything extra cost a lot. The hotel isn’t cheap, so that was disappointing.

Angelo from the concierge team made my stay memorable. He was kind, attentive, and proactive, and handled recommendations and last-minute arrangements with ease and a smile. Every staff member I met was warm, professional, and eager to help. I had an exceptional experience from beginning to end, and look forward to coming back. Highly recommend this hotel.

The Milos felt more like a restaurant with a hotel attached than the other way round, but the service was excellent and our room was spacious and comfortable. Its location in Athens was excellent too. Breakfast came with our room and was made to order. It was so generous that after the first day we asked to split one. The restaurant has a lovely bar area and several excellent wines by the glass at reasonable prices. The front desk and bell staff were eager to help and suggested places to shop and eat. We stayed three nights before going to my husband’s village, then chose another property when we returned to Athens. We wished we’d gone back to Milos instead. We’ll be back!

The rooms are comfortable, though one of ours was poorly cleaned. On my first night, I went down to ask what the kitchen could offer. It was 11 pm, and after a lot of discussion I got cheese and a mixed green salad. When I asked for wine, the response was so unenthusiastic that I gave up. There were only eight hangers in the wardrobe, so I asked for more, and another eight arrived. I also requested water for the room, but delivery came with a hefty charge: two bottles of sparkling water cost almost €20. We had arrived in a smart airport transfer arranged by the hotel. The driver suggested paying him directly, or through the hotel, and I chose the hotel. At reception, nobody greeted us or helped with our four very large suitcases. Daniel gave us a lacklustre welcome and immediately asked for a card to cover extra charges, even though I had prepaid. I understand needing a card, but that was a poor opening. There was apparently a bell boy, but all he did was put our suitcases in an elevator. Nobody came with us to the room. We’d read the reviews and arrived with high expectations, having stayed at some of the most acclaimed hotels around the world. This fell far short. The service so far has been abysmal, nowhere near what I’d expect from a five-star hotel. I’m writing on night one and hope things improve, but I’m already wondering whether to accept the cost and move elsewhere instead of enduring five more days. It’s extraordinarily disappointing.
