Yiannis Apartments

We used the apartment mostly as a place to shower, eat breakfast, and sleep, and it worked well as a base for exploring the island. There were a few restaurants within walking distance and a small convenience store just 50 metres away. Towels were changed regularly, and the bins were emptied every two days. The hosts weren’t fluent in English, but they were kind and helpful, and we managed to communicate smoothly. Our three-room apartment had a spacious balcony with a lovely view of the sea and the bay of Corfu Town. The pool was modest in size, though big enough for a few laps. We only went once, as we usually swam and snorkelled in the sea. For the price, we found it well worth recommending. Anyone after luxury may want somewhere else, but it’s comfortable and convenient.

We’ve been to Barbati before and love it. The location and sea view here are great, and the apartment was simple and clean. Yiannis is a very friendly host. There’s a handy supermarket close by, parking in front of the building, and the beach is about a 10-minute walk. You need to be reasonably fit for the walk, but the beach is great and the water warm and calm. We had the first apartment beside the taverna. A pump at the neighboring hotel ran loudly around the clock, so sitting quietly on the balcony or sleeping with the window open wasn’t possible. The balcony had no sun cover, making breakfast outside impractical, and there were only four chairs to move in and out. The upper apartments near the pool might not have these issues. The pool was warm, maybe too warm, and the small, lightweight umbrellas gave little cover, with many broken. There was just a small shallow area where children could stand and play; the rest was up to 2.5 metres deep. The electrical setup also seemed a bit substandard: our kids felt some pain in the shower, and we felt it while cooking or touching the pan.

Yiannis was a great host. His English may not be the strongest, but he understood everything and was there whenever we needed something. On our last night, he even gave our son a gift. The rooms are very simple, but they have everything you need. We were there with two adults and our three-year-old and had a wonderful holiday. The apartments sit on a hillside with a spectacular view over the sea all the way to Corfy City. The walk up is very steep, but the view makes the effort worthwhile. There’s a lovely pool with plenty of space around it, sunbeds, and umbrellas, plus that same beautiful view. We rented a car, which made trips around the island easy, and there was enough parking by the apartments. Panorama Bar is part of the property and serves really delicious Greek dishes at very low prices. The staff were friendly and helpful and spoke English, and you might even see Yiannis cooking. It’s a calm, beautiful place, and we’d definitely recommend staying here.

Barbati is a small tourist area with some nice beaches, and it’s easy to reach from Corfu Town and the airport. I’d recommend renting a car. The area itself is great. The apartment has a good location and a great view. The pool was fine and not too busy, and there’s a little shop next door. The beds were okay, and there’s air conditioning, but it costs an extra 6 euros per day. The rooms were clean but old and shabby, and there were too few parasols by the pool. For what you get, I’d put fair value at around 75 euros a night, maximum.
