Cretan Renaissance

We stayed at Cretan Renaissance in late September 2024 during a wonderful honeymoon trip, and it’s a hidden gem right at Chania’s Venetian harbor. The charming boutique hotel has large, beautiful rooms with port views. Restaurants and shops in the inner harbor are just steps away, making it a perfect location for a visit to Chania. Breakfast at the restaurant next door was wonderful.

The breakfast ended up being one of our favorite parts. We went out the first morning, then ate the hotel’s free breakfast every day after that, and got 15% off food at the restaurant whenever we ate there. The restaurant is excellent, with quick, friendly staff, and John, who owns both it and the hotel, clearly runs things well. Elena made the stay especially memorable. She arranged our room just as we asked, shared lots of ideas for exploring Crete, and was always happy to chat in the mornings before we headed out. The room was lovely, the bed was really comfortable, and the soundproofing kept the restaurant noise below from bothering us during busy hours. The only small drawback, if you’re renting a car, is parking. There’s no hotel parking, and finding a spot can take a long time. Still, Cretan Renaissance is a must-stay anywhere on Crete, not just in Chania. We’d come back to the island just to stay here again.

We’d happily stay here again. The place was very clean, the staff were kind and helpful, and breakfast was delicious. Great location, too.

John and his mother looked after us so well, even packing food for our early trips when we’d miss breakfast at the restaurant. The manager and staff were lovely throughout. Our room felt cozy and was decorated with real style. It had everything we needed, plus coffee and a welcome tray with wine and snacks. The windows did a great job keeping the harbor and night scene sounds outside while we napped. It’s a charming little hotel right by the harbor, with a beautiful view of the pier.
