Gregory Village Sea View

From the balcony you can see both the sea and mountains, and beaches, restaurants, and markets are close by. Gregory Village is a great spot if you like walking a bit, away from city noise. If walking isn't your thing, you can park right next to the hotel. Housekeeping was impeccable, the cleaning lady left everything sparkling each day. The kitchen had enough equipment for simple meals, and there were balconies at the front and back. The only downside was a squeaky bed, though after a couple of nights and a few wines, we got used to it 😀

Good value, and I had a positive stay. The rooms have the basics covered, including AC, a fridge, kitchenware, a hairdryer, and somewhere to dry swimwear. There are nice terraces for an evening glass of wine, plus sunbeds. From the road it's about five minutes uphill on foot, though the crossing may not feel safe since there's a pedestrian path on only one side. Two sandy beaches and a few nice restaurants are within walking distance. I began in room 11, which was too noisy at night because it's close to a busy road. I'm a light sleeper, so I asked to move and got room 4. That was great service, and the pictures are of room 4, which looks quite different from room 11. Just be prepared to find all kinds of insects in the room, since the surrounding nature is rich and they inevitably get inside.

The rooms are roomy, with big balconies looking out over the ocean, and the beds are on the firm side but still comfortable. We had a great stay for the price. Check-in is self-service, so if you're traveling internationally, contact them in advance while you have wifi to make sure you have all the details you need. They also offered a delicious buffet breakfast at their sister hotel, a five-minute drive away, for a very reasonable price.

The strong WiFi was a plus, though it ran a little slowly. Room 3 felt quite dim, partly because of the clay and dark grey walls. A coat of white or off-white paint would make it brighter. The property is older, but the owners have clearly put effort into upkeep. We also found the kitchenette and drying rack handy, and liked having both decorative curtains and blackout/privacy curtains. There are cats all over the place, so keep that in mind whether you like them or not. For directions, Google Maps may send you on a long loop over dirt roads near the end. Stay on the Old National Road and take the short dirt track of about 300 meters to reach the hotel. Its convenient location and value make it a decent choice for budget-conscious travelers.
