Hotel Filoxenia

The rooms are a little dingy and old, though they were very clean. For the price, ours was perfectly acceptable, with working AC, a big balcony and a spot close to the water, swimming and downtown. What really made the stay was the staff. We turned up without warning just after midnight because our car rental had fallen through and we were stranded in Chania. The manager welcomed us and even marked local highlights on a map for us. The next morning, while I was trying to sort out the car, everyone was incredibly helpful. One staff member told me, “Humans should help humans.” They called one of their local partners, and we were able to rent a car through them for our vacation. They felt like one big family, as if they were inviting you into their home. They also have a bar and poured us some Raki while we waited. Highly recommend.

We came across the hotel by chance, and the owner’s tips for local restaurants and places to explore in the region were great. The hotel was quiet and clean, and very well located as a base for seeing Chania. We felt welcome as soon as we walked in. The hospitality was outstanding, and I’d highly recommend staying here.

We checked in early and were greeted with a welcome drink and food: raki, marinated fish with cherry tomato, olives, bread and water. The hosts are incredible. It’s a perfect family hotel, with the old town just a minute away, the beach two minutes away, and a huge free parking area 50 metres away. Strongly recommended.
