Melani Apartments

For our wedding anniversary, we booked Melani Apartments in Nea Chora, but the stay was deeply upsetting. The room we were put in was dark, dingy and completely unusable, despite emails and photos confirming a specific room. The listing did not match what we found. We told the owner we couldn't stay and would have to leave, and they mocked us, saying, “good luck finding somewhere else.” Thankfully, we found another place. We were also told that the same pictures are used for every room on the website, so they don't show which room you will actually get. We felt let down by the lack of honesty and support. The hall and stairwell were cluttered with stored items, which seemed a serious fire hazard. We wouldn't recommend it to anyone seeking comfort, safety or reliability.

The hosts were friendly and helpful, left bottled water and soda for our arrival, and let us check out late to fit our flight. The beachfront location was fantastic, but the apartment itself was very run down and needed a lot of attention. Our room was tiny, with nowhere near enough cutlery or cooking gear to make even a basic meal. There was no curtain on the shower window, which looked onto the neighbors. The air conditioning was noisy and not very effective. The common areas smelled, though the rooms were fine. Given the other options nearby, I didn't feel it was worth the money.

The views and location were amazing, but it was the kindness of the people working here that made our stay so special. They were genuinely considerate and warm, which made our time in Chania so much better. Thank you for everything.

The sunset views near the beach are mesmerizing, with colors fading into each other. The hosts are friendly and welcoming. Be sure to try the tavern's seafood. I warmly recommend staying here!
