The Tanneries Hotel & Spa

Falling asleep to the surf was magical during our two nights here. The room and bathroom were spacious, and housekeeping understood our request to remove the mattress topper, which most hotels don't seem to get. Sotiria gave an outstanding, professional, strong massage. Staff service was very good overall. Valet parking, Apivita bathroom amenities, and made-to-order breakfast dishes alongside a tasty buffet made it a real treat.

I'd call it 4.5 stars, since nearly everything was wonderful: great rooms, a comfy bed, a fantastic sea view, a very nice restaurant, and an amazing in-room steam shower. The Hammam in the spa was basically unusable. It seemed badly designed, with the top far too hot and the bottom far too cool. I stayed two nights and asked for the room to be serviced between 10:30 am and noon. I confirmed that with the front desk receptionist before heading out, but when I got back at 2:40 pm, the cleaners had only just started and couldn't finish.

Breakfast was absolutely wonderful, and the ocean views were amazing. This is a great hotel in a fully renovated former tannery, with good-sized, well-equipped rooms and an excellent rain shower with a steam room. There's also an indoor pool and a hammam, and treatments can be arranged in a nice, secluded room for two.

Our room had a balcony right above the water, with incredible views of the sea, Chania, and the mountains. My wife and I really enjoyed our four nights at The Tanneries. The modern, beautifully designed hotel sits directly on the water, about a 15-minute walk from downtown Chania. All the staff spoke English and were very attentive. Highly recommend.
