Villa Venezia

The room was clean and comfortable, and the Wi-Fi was strong enough for me to work from there. It looked a little dated, but suited us well. From the balcony we could watch people with a full view of the old port, and steps gave us direct access. The back door opened right onto the old town’s narrow lanes. I’d stay here again.

The owner was kind enough to come and find us, and said other guests had also struggled to reach the property. It’s right on the Port, but you get there through a restaurant’s back door and then climb very steep stairs. It wasn’t easy to locate, and parking would be difficult if you have a car. The room and bathroom were very old and outdated for the price, and the streetlight shining through the window kept the room bright. There are better options.

The old Venetian harbor nearby is beautiful, and we found the service friendly. Wi-Fi worked well too. I stayed at Villa Venezia in February 2015, and came away with mixed feelings. The room was spacious but run-down, cold, and never warmed up enough. The shower was tiny, and the window shutters gave us trouble in the stormy weather. Their locks broke in the middle of the night. Getting there by car is nearly impossible.

Room 4 was a studio on the top floor, facing the harbour, with a beautiful view, a huge double bed, and a good fridge. Still, we wouldn’t book here again. The building is so old that the floor slanted and the door frames were out of square. There was cheap laminate, old windows and shutters, and small curtains. The toilet was just about functional. On the final two nights, it rained a little and water began leaking through the ceiling.
