Morning Star

The family who run this beautiful hotel were so sweet and personable, and made our time in Chios wonderful. The mother made me breakfast every morning, and it was definitely worth it. The hotel was clean, with a lovely pool, and there’s a beach just two minutes away. I’d definitely recommend staying here.

I spent six months here for a project on the island. It’s quiet, clean, and close to town, and I highly recommend it as a place to stay. The rooms were spacious, very clean, and had a nice view. Breakfast offered lots of choice and was comparable to what you’d get at a four or even five star hotel. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, always there when we needed them.

The hotel was the only good part of our holiday. Getting around the island was difficult, and I didn’t find good places to see. The rocky beach in front of the hotel hurt our feet and was hard to stand on. Karfas sandy beach is 2 kms away, so you need a taxi. The fares seemed different each time, and drivers coming from Chios downtown charged us for their journey to us as well. It felt ridiculous and greedier than anything I’ve seen in other European countries. There was no Bolt, Uber, or electric scooters. The island felt poor and undeveloped. We expected charming towns, buildings, and Greek cultural elements, but mostly saw modern bistros and cafes you could find anywhere. The trip to Chios was a total disappointment.

Nick gave us a map of Chios, marked places to visit, and told us which buses went into town, including their names and numbers. The Morning Star is about five minutes from the port and within walking distance of a supermarket and beach bar. Our room had everything we needed and a great balcony view. Nick’s frappés and Katerina’s tiropites were a lovely way to start each day. This family-run hotel really felt like home. Katerina, Nick, and Maria were incredibly attentive, and their care and passion showed throughout our stay. We couldn’t have asked for anything better, and I can’t wait to come back.
