Hiking around the village was a highlight. There are lovely trails nearby, with olive groves, churches, villages and gorge walks, and the scenery is stunning. People in Crete were so kind, too, and there’s a good chance someone will offer you fresh fruit. We had a lovely stay with the friendly hosts, and the breakfast was amazing. The rooms are small, but really comfortable, pretty and practical. A great choice if you want nature and local culture somewhere authentic, without too many tourists.

The apartments have all been recently renovated and were spotless, with amazing staff. It’s about 20 minutes from the busy city, so you’ll need a rental car. Highly recommend it!

The owners were incredibly welcoming. We landed at night, starving, and they kindly set a table for us. The food was delicious; afterward we sat with them for a while, drinking ouzo and eating fruit. Hospitality was 10/10! Breakfast was delicious too, and when I mentioned I’m gluten free, they made a few things I could eat. The rooms are clean and quite traditional. One thing to know: there’s a steep walk down to them, so leave your luggage in the car and carry only what you need. We had a great stay.
