Matala Hostel

Sebastien was a real highlight. He was friendly, eager to help, and shared useful ideas for Crete and even my next stop in Cyprus. The whole team was wonderful and made sure I had what I needed. Matala Hostel has a relaxed, welcoming feel, with clean, comfortable rooms and common spaces where it’s easy to meet other travelers. It’s also an easy walk to the beach and the heart of Matala. I had an unforgettable time there.

The pool was a favorite spot, whether I wanted to lounge in the sun or chat with other travelers. There’s plenty of space around the hostel, including quieter corners when you need a break. The location is convenient for getting to what you need, while still being peaceful. Everything felt clean and cared for, and the staff were friendly and ready to help. I felt very welcome and would happily stay again.

Adam, the manager from Slovakia, put so much care into making guests feel at home. He went out of his way to make my visit memorable, and I’m grateful for it. Sophie also greeted me with such warmth, and her kindness set the tone right away. Matala Hostel has a lively, young crowd and a fun “live, love, and laugh” spirit. The spacious building feels open thanks to its high ceilings, and the herb garden adds a lovely, relaxed touch. Thanks to Sophie, Adam, and the whole team for a memorable stay.

The beach and Matala center are only about a five-minute walk away. I’ve stayed at this hostel several times this summer and each time found what I needed for a warm, welcoming visit. The staff are friendly and always willing to help. A great place with lovely people, highly recommended.
