Central Fira Hotel

Central Fira Suites is handy for Theotokopoulus Main Square, with restaurants, souvenir shops, and ATV rentals close by. There’s a bus station nearby too, so the location seems to be the main thing you’re paying for. The room was also much smaller than the photos made it look. We came near the end of November. Although air conditioning was advertised, it was turned off for winter, even though it was still 20-23 degrees Celsius outside. The room got unbearably hot and stuffy, and we dreaded going back in. We had to leave the door and window open to cool it down. At night we overheated and sweated, and once my husband had to take a cold shower in the middle of the night. It was also very noisy. We could hear everything from reception and the hallways, as well as music from nearby restaurants. The website advertised 24/7 reception, but when we arrived we were told staff left at 4. Before the trip, we called several times to ask about an earlier check-in and got no answer. We couldn’t use “message host” on booking.com either. In the end, we booked the hotel next door, where they responded right away and arranged transport from the ferry to our room at 4am. I understand if they don’t think they need to offer A/C in the off-season, but the listing should say so clearly. For a well-located place that probably gets visitors regularly, I’d have expected it to be available year-round. The same goes for reception hours. If no one is there all the time in quieter months, that should be stated accurately on the website and booking sites so guests don’t book after hours and then get no answer.
