Loucas on the Cliff Hotel

I booked Loucas on the Cliff for three nights, September 5-8, 2025, after randomly finding it with a good price and amazing views over the Aegean. I had read plenty of negative comments, but thought it would suit me and my friend. The location right in the center of Fira impressed me. Our room was clean and cleaned every day, breakfast with an ocean view was included, and the waiters were nice. The receptionist gave us useful information and safety advice. Just don't count on the swimming pool, it wasn't working.

We got the family suite and couldn't be happier with the location or the view. Santorini at its best. There seem to be both very low-quality rooms and amazing ones, despite some odd reviews here, so which room you get matters. This is one of the island's oldest hotels, established in 1970. If you get the right room, it's great value for the money.

The view from our room, No. 49, was breathtaking, and I could never get enough of it. It was the lowest room down the cliff, and we stayed three nights as a couple in a Superior Room Caldera View. Keep in mind there are about 138 hill steps from the breakfast area to the room, so you need to be fit. The location is superb and the staff are friendly, though the service isn't the best. Cleanliness was very good and the sheets were clean. Breakfast was average, with the same menu each morning, no fresh fruit, though it included a bit of everything. If you're fit and on a budget, I'd suggest a Caldera view room for the scenery. I uploaded a video.

The views from the shared areas were amazing, but the rest of the stay was a disappointment. We booked an Executive Triple Room with Caldera View based on photos that showed a private view, balcony, and lounge chairs. The room we got didn't match. When I asked the receptionist about it, she laughed and said the hotel had no such rooms, then took me to the owner. The owner told me to contact booking.com. After I pressed the issue, she admitted the room I'd booked was already taken. No apology at all. There were other people's hair and makeup marks on the bedding, and our room was next to an open door with smelly bags of rubbish and other trash. Breakfast was poor and portions were stingy. We even had to ask for salt and pepper. The coffee was cold and watery, and I found a long dark hair in the mushrooms. A server spilled orange juice on our table and acted like she hadn't noticed. No care with the details, everything felt messy and dirty, and the employees were loud. Bring your own conditioner and slippers, since neither is provided.
