Getting up the hill to the hotel takes some effort, so it won’t suit older people or anyone with a disability. On the plus side, there’s a walking route to Agios Nicolaos, mountain goats wander around, and the views are breathtaking. There’s no laundromat at the hotel, though we found one in Chora near the parking lot. The room was cleaned daily by a lovely woman, and towels were changed every third day. They also provide a beach towel. The shower only has a handheld head, but water and hot water were never a problem. Our bed was very comfortable, though it was a double rather than a queen. The air conditioner worked well, but switched off when we left the room with the key. The mini hairdryer has no guard over the vent, so be careful or it can catch your hair. Breakfast worked perfectly for us. Each morning Christine, one of the family owners who manages the hotel, put out hard-boiled eggs, Greek yogurt, cherry jams, fruit, cold cuts, banana bread, coffee dunkers and drinks, with mini croissants or mini tyropites now and then. Pastries from The Baker of Folegandros might have made it even better. The rooms were updated and spotless, with beautiful views. This was our second time in Folegandros, and Pasithea might be our favorite place to stay. We’d happily return again and again.

The access is difficult, so I wouldn’t recommend the hotel for families or people with disabilities. The location and amenities were good, the rooms were spacious and very clean, and the beach view was spectacular. It’s near town, though you’ll still need a car. Staff were willing to help, but we didn’t get to know the owners, who might have been able to suggest top sights and local restaurants. Breakfast was below average, with few choices and not even basics like croissants.

The shrimp saganaki appetizer was fantastic, and both the sea bream and red mullet we ordered were sensational. The restaurant is up the steps from the beach, past Blue Sands, and was one of the best places we ate in Greece. They bring out the fresh fish caught that morning, let you choose what you want, and tell you the price.

Katerina deserves a special mention for being so friendly and going out of her way to make sure guests enjoy their stay. This family-run hotel is beautifully looked after and right over the beach, on the island’s sheltered side. It’s a short walk or boat ride to other beaches, and the bus reaches Hora, the main town, in 15 minutes. Late at night you’ll need a taxi back. Everyone I met seemed very happy there, and those who could stay longer did. It makes a perfect base for the island. I hope to return. A great find.
