The biggest issue was the cleaning. During our five-day stay nobody came to our room, although we saw staff cleaning nearby rooms each day. I asked reception three times, but our beds stayed unmade, the floor unswept, and the bins overflowed. Since used tissues aren’t supposed to go in the toilet in Greece, the bin began to smell after the second day. Reception kept assuring me with smiles that it would be handled, but nothing changed. On day four, one receptionist called the cleaner; that seemed not to go well, and she apologized before handing me clean towels and a couple of plastic bags so I could sort things out myself. No one came for the used towels or rubbish afterward. I carried the smelly bathroom bin back to reception, where they told me to put it in the skip outside myself. I can’t tell which was worse, the lack of service or being told repeatedly that it would be taken care of. I’d rather they had simply said that rooms aren’t cleaned during a stay here. Cleaning clearly wasn’t included, even though we paid over €114 a night. There were some real positives: the hotel is old but not bad overall, with a lovely garden, a large pool, and a small, beautiful private beach just below. Breakfast was plentiful and varied, reasonably good, and had fresh bread. Go early and everything is available. It’s a 10-minute walk to town and the ferries. With the pool, location, and great views, I would have given it five stars despite the dated look if the cleaning hadn’t been such a problem.

The staff were amazing, really helpful and accommodating with our requests. Getting to the hotel is easy even on foot if you don’t have a car, since it’s very close to the docks. There’s plenty of parking if you drive. We also enjoyed the pool, the private beach with its incredible sea life, and the included breakfast, which was good fuel for the day.

The staff were kind, and the pool was lovely, but the hotel felt shabby and full of problems. The beds and pillows were like slabs of concrete, and music played loudly for most of the day. It was unbearable at breakfast and by the pool. I’d requested a double bed months ahead, but was given a twin room because they said they were full. After I assisted, I was moved to a double. The huge lobby felt depressing, and the signs pointing to the rooms were useless.

After days out exploring, this was a comfortable place to come back to. The rooms were cool and the views over the Aegean were stunning, with a good breakfast and lots of fresh produce in the morning. The hotel isn’t luxurious, but Andros itself is charming, with friendly people, delicious food, and lovely scenery.

It’s a worn-out hotel, but it has the things you need: breakfast at no charge, a pool and pool bar, tennis court, a small private beach, and great sea views. The bathrooms are dated, and the pool needs maintenance.
