SENTIDO AMOUNDA BAY

The staff were so kind, and we had a great stay. The rooms were always clean, the food was hot, and the pool loungers were really comfortable, even if the place may not be five star. Drinks were the main letdown: the alcohol seemed very low grade, and there weren’t many drink or juice options. We made do and would love to come back.

The private beach was a lovely extra. It’s a 5-7 minute walk, and we actually enjoyed getting there on foot. The hotel has a peaceful, welcoming atmosphere, very friendly staff, and excellent food with lots of variety. We found it exceptional value for money and wholeheartedly recommend it!

We’ve just come back from a 7 night stay, and wish we’d looked into the hotel more before booking. It seemed to favour French and German guests. One young male member of the bar staff, who was 19, HATED us for being British and was incredibly rude. It didn’t feel very child friendly. There’s a ‘baby pool’ but that’s about it, and there was no daytime entertainment. While we were there, the evening shows were DJs, then a dancer, saxophone player, and live singer for the last 3 nights. They started around 9pm and went on until 11/11:30. It was extremely loud in our room, which was frustrating with our one year old. The rooms also aren’t soundproof at all, and we were often disturbed by the people next door and in the hallways. We booked a ‘superior double’, but there was nothing superior about the basic room. It had no real storage, just about 8 clothes hangers and 2 tiny drawers in the wardrobe, presumably for underwear. There isn’t much around the hotel either. You’d need to rent a car or pay about €70 euros each way in a taxi to the Chania or Malia areas. The food was okay but got repetitive, and it was often hard to find a table at the busy buffet. We also felt they seemed to hate us bringing our one year old, even though they were mostly asleep or well behaved. The hotel itself was fine, but our room could have been cleaner. It often wasn’t swept, and the bedsheets seemed to be straightened rather than changed. We wouldn’t book again, especially with a child.

The pools and beach were nice, and the coffee was good too. The hotel seemed very well managed. The food was good, though not as awesome as at the 5* hotel from the same group in Hurghada, Sentido Mamlouk Palace. Drinks were good as well, but some cocktails could be better.
