Camari Garden Hotel Apartments

The food was brilliant, and everyone working there was so welcoming and helpful. Our room was clean and had everything we needed. A lovely atmosphere at these family-run apartments. Five stars, and I’d definitely recommend them.

Getting into Rethymno was easy, just a short bus ride away. Back at Camari gardens, the staff were SO lovely, and the food was the freshest and most delicious we had in Crete. Our huge apartment had a big balcony, a fridge and freezer, a good shower, and a massive, comfy double bed plus two single beds. Perfect for us, couldn’t fault it. Thank you Camari Gardens 😁

The team made the stay for us. It’s a family-owned hotel, but you couldn’t tell the family members apart from the rest of the staff. Everyone was warm, friendly, funny, and happy to chat, and each person seemed set on making our visit as good as possible. We loved the two big pools, which caught the sun at different times of day. There were somehow exactly enough loungers, too. The restaurant has gorgeous views and delicious Cretan food, and the local wines deserve a mention. It was our first visit, but we’ll certainly be back. I’d give this 10/5 if I could!

We’ve eaten at a few other restaurants, and Camari compares really well. The meat is cooked superbly and is good value, especially the pitta gyros. Service is the best I’ve had anywhere. A pint in a frozen glass is hard to beat, and the very inexpensive litre carafes of wine are perfect for a long evening with friends. The family also runs the local mini mart beside the complex, with all the basics and more. Nearby, there’s beautiful Gerani village with its coffee shops, restaurants, and excellent bakery. There’s also a cove with a small beach, chapel, and restaurant. A regular bus stops outside and goes to lovely Rethymno. I’d also recommend hiring a car to explore farther afield, for example Lake Kournas, Georgeopoli, Margaritas, Matala, Loutro, and Spinalonga. Or just stay put and lounge by one of the two pools, with great food and drinks brought to you and that excellent family service. It’s a great family-run place, and the accommodation is good and gets regular upgrades. We had a new bed this year. Every day the cleaners made the beds, took the rubbish, brought fresh towels, and mopped the floor. It’s easy to see why people return year after year. We’re among them now. The whole family makes you feel included and always takes time for a chat.
