Caldera Beach Hotel

Our family was put in a basement-like room that felt more like storage than a hotel room, far from the pools and restaurant. It smelled terrible, there were ants even in the bathroom, and the curtains looked as if they’d never been washed. We were promised a clean, comfortable stay, but that wasn’t what we got. We told the staff about the problems and were told someone would get back to us. Nobody did. That service was unacceptable. It was a huge disappointment and nothing like promised. I strongly advise against booking this hotel.

At best, I’d call this a 3-star-plus hotel, and the service is just as poor. The beach is awful, especially for anyone with kids. Better to stay away and go to platanias or agia marina instead of this cheap, pretend wannabe complex.

We mostly spent our time out swimming and relaxing, usually in the sea, watching fish in the shallow local water. We only came back to sleep, shower, and change, and the beds were comfortable. It’s good for families, with several pools for different ages, seaside access, sunbeds, and beach towels. The location just off the main road meant little traffic or noise to worry about. The food was absolutely delicious, with a good selection. Aubergines were my favorite, and there were plenty of safe, conservative options for kids. Staff were polite and helpful without hovering. The rooms were fine, with a cooker, fridge, and small patio drying rack. Grounds were tidy, green, and well kept, with prickly pears, lots of birds of paradise, and a banana plant in bloom. P. S. The TV had touch-screen controls.

The buffet and Greek Taverna food were amazing, and the waiters and waitresses were friendly, considerate, and happy to help. The pools were fab, and the kids, aged 5-17, spent most of their time in them. Our large family group had a fantastic holiday at Caldera Beach in Crete. The resort and hotel were lovely, the location was perfect, and it was great to be right beside the beach. The sea and mountain views were beautiful. The rooms were a good size and kept really clean, with clean towels whenever needed, including sunbed towels. The cleaner was kind and thorough. I’d highly recommend it and would love to return. There are other nice places to visit nearby too.
