Basilico Hotel

I felt safe and comfortable travelling on my own, and the hotel was just right for the quiet break I wanted: time in the sun, a book, and good food and wine. The area wasn’t my favourite part of Crete, but I’d definitely come back to this hotel. The grounds are beautifully looked after, and the hotel itself is lovely, modern, and very clean. The restaurant became my dinner spot every night, and I enjoyed a Greek breakfast each morning. Eleni was wonderful and went above and beyond, as did all the other lovely staff. There’s a bus stop a couple of minutes away on foot. Small shops and supermarkets are between about 2 and 10 minutes’ walk for basics like water and snacks. I paid €35 for a taxi from the airport, then took the bus back. That was easy and comfortable, and cost just €2.40. One small thing: towels were changed every three days, and I would have preferred more frequent changes. They did change them when I asked, though, and I really can’t fault the hotel.

A small, uncrowded place with a lovely bar and really friendly staff. We had an amazing time.

The restaurant was really, really good, and the pool was beautiful. Our rooms were completely new and very nice, with perfect service throughout. Close to everything, too.

We had to find a room late at night after UK air traffic control problems left us stranded at the airport. We got there at 1am, and the owner met us and helped with our bags. We were grateful for a good night’s sleep, then stayed on through the next day while waiting for a replacement flight home. The setting was beautiful, the room spacious, and the balcony view was glorious. My daughter and I spent much of the afternoon swimming to pass the time. The owners made sure we were looked after, and we even had an amazing meal at the restaurant before they arranged our taxi to the airport.
