Manthos Mountain Resort & Spa Resort

We had a lovely stay at Manthos. The hotel is beautiful and has really nice amenities. The indoor pool is lovely, and the common room decorations make it feel cozy. In winter, they keep a big fireplace going.

The water in the pool is cold, which makes sense in summer when it isn’t heated. Breakfast is still quite sparse and has no vegetables, but when I asked for tomatoes and cucumbers they brought them to our table very politely. I booked directly through the hotel’s email and got a better price than on third-party sites. On this return visit I changed my review to reflect how things are now. I enjoyed the Pelion scenery so much in 2024 that I came back in 2025, and Manthos is still the only proper hotel, with some improvements. This time the mattress was very good and I slept without any problem, though I still don’t know whether they changed the one in room 3. When I first visited Manthos in August 2024, the mountain setting meant we needed a car, but the views were breathtaking and the hotel felt cozy and looked nice. The mattress then was old and damaged, uneven and lower at the sides, with springs I could feel in my back. I couldn’t get my head to a comfortable height and slept badly, which mattered a lot to me. There’s a lot going for the location: it’s at 1170m, summer temperatures reach a maximum of 28C, mountain trails are nearby, and Pelion beaches are 35 minutes away by car. There’s also a football field, rooms with fireplaces, a large parking lot, an incredible view of the Pagasetic Gulf, helpful staff, and a drinkable water spring. The drawbacks I noted were that old mattress, no breakfast vegetables besides olives, and a very low pool temperature.

The restaurant food was really good and fresh. The location is gorgeous, and the drive up from Volos at sunset is spectacular if you can time it that way. Be sure to stop at the farm stand halfway up for some of the freshest honey you’ll ever have, with a wide variety to choose from.
