The staff were lovely, greeting us whenever we passed, making jokes and looking after people by the pool. The grounds are pretty, with lovely flowers that the owner clearly cares for. The room was spacious, had a good terrace and stayed cool during the day while we were out, thanks to good air conditioning. The hotel was quiet, even though Chaniotis is a very busy town. I hadn’t realized its atmosphere was more like a Baltic Benidorm. It isn’t a party hotel though, it’s quiet and respectful. There are mini-markets and restaurants a minute away, and the beach is maybe a 5-10 minute walk. It’s an easy, basic stay if you’re out at the beach all day, but not the place for lounging around in a classic Greek hotel. The facilities are dated, especially the bathroom and furniture. Our two single beds had been pushed together, the other furniture was damaged, and the single bedsheet was a bit small. The hand soap dispenser looked rusty and sharp, so I didn’t want to use it. The cubicle was tiny, though the water pressure was good. Wi-Fi didn’t work in the room but was good poolside. The pool itself was good, but the decking has seen better days, patched with black tape, and the loungers were very basic. For how dated everything is, I thought the hotel was quite pricey.

The main problem was the staff’s rude, unwelcoming behavior. The manager and staff seemed to watch guests to check they were following the hotel rules, almost as if we needed to read a manual to stay there. It’s hard to relax on holiday when you feel watched with every move. I’d strongly recommend that they be friendlier and make guests feel comfortable. Some smaller issues could be overlooked or easily fixed: the rooms are a little dated, the air conditioning was too noisy, there was no shampoo refill after the first day so I had to buy my own, and the Wi-Fi was weak and slow. Nothing was seriously wrong like dirty rooms or broken furniture. The price was a bit high for the amenities and service. There’s a public parking area five minutes away, which is useful since the hotel parking has limited availability and costs 15€/day.

The poolside bar is great, and the cocktails are really good. They also serve lovely food during the day. The staff are great and do everything they can for you. Hotel Nereides is just off the main square, close to some really nice restaurants, shops and bakeries. The rooms are a good size and very clean, and the grounds have beautiful flowers and are kept clean too.

We spent most of our two weeks at Hotel Nereides in 2023 relaxing by the well-kept pool, on the many comfy sunbeds. Food and drinks were brought whenever we wanted, and the service was friendly and attentive. The staff were great with kids of all ages, and they waved and greeted us whenever we came or went. The hotel is small, about 25 rooms, and a little dated, but very well maintained. Our room was cleaned daily by friendly cleaners. The bed was a little uncomfortable but fine, and the bathroom was clean and functional, with good water pressure. The hotel and the area right around it are lovely and quiet. There are excellent bars, restaurants, cafes, shops and bakeries less than five minutes away on foot, plus a couple of big supermarkets and the beach under ten minutes away. Lots of guests were repeat visitors, and I can see why. It was one of the most relaxing holidays we’ve had, and we’d highly recommend it.

It was a perfect family stay. The property is close to the beach, the food was delicious, and the rooms were cosy, spacious and super clean. The hotel really exceeded our expectations. Highly recommend!
