Centro Vero Suites by Omilos Hotels

We loved our stay and would happily book again. The place is cute and great value, with a central spot overlooking St Titus Church. Breakfast was great, the staff were lovely, and housekeeping brought fresh towels each day. Now and then we heard the church bells, music from a nearby cafe until 11 pm, and noise from the school playground.

We stayed at Centro Vero Suites by Omilos Hotels in Heraklion, Crete, on October 11, 2025, for the first night of a planned seven-night booking. I’m writing this so other travelers know what our experience was like. We did not recommend the hotel to friends, and it fell far short of the value we expected for the high price. The Junior Suite looked nothing like the advertising photos on several websites. It needed a full refresh and a thorough clean. The sofa was stained and wet, and seemed to need heavy-duty cleaning or replacing. The kitchen was missing basics such as dishes, utensils, a clean dish towel or scrubber, and dishwasher cleaner. Some utensils were dirty with dried food stuck on them. We’d booked expecting a nice room with a “private outdoor hot tub,” but when we arrived it wasn’t filled, and there were no instructions for using it. Sleeping was difficult too. Street noise and bells from the church across the road came through even with the windows shut and locked. The windows had no soundproofing at all. There’s no hotel parking. Spaces in the area cost 10 to 20 euros a day. We’d asked for parking ahead of time, but there was no space in the parking area the hotel uses when we arrived. Getting checked in was confusing because Centro Vero Suites in Heraklion has no front desk. We were lucky that a woman at the restaurant next door got in touch with hotel staff. We’d tried calling and emailing several times the day before, without reaching anyone. Our reservation voucher said we’d get check-in instructions by email 48 hours before arrival, but no email came. After we’d spent several days of our vacation messaging hotel staff on WhatsApp, they said they wouldn’t refund us. They told us the cancellation policy on our Expedia voucher wasn’t the policy for Centro Vero Suites and that we should contact our travel agent. We still don’t understand why the policies differed. Our agent contacted Expedia, but we got neither compensation nor an explanation. The booking had been made for us by our travel agent through Expedia. On checkout morning the elevator was out of order, so we had to carry our luggage down three flights of stairs. A hotel clerk offered us another room elsewhere in the city, but we turned it down because we were worried we’d get caught up in another misleading offer.

Breakfast was good in a lovely cafe on the ground floor, and the room was beautiful. The location is excellent.
