Evina Rooms and Suites

Gournes was just what our family expected: a relaxing, quiet place that wasn't too crowded. Evina S Hotel met our expectations, with a nice host and good cleanliness in a distinctly Greek setting. We ate at Erato Hotel and restaurant, only 20 meters away, and found the quality for the price very good. The beach is about a 10-minute walk from the hotel and wasn't crowded either. Taking local KTEL buses was convenient, with bus no 8 stopping in front of the hotel.

Gournes is small and not especially attractive, so it won't suit anyone looking for parties or entertainment. The beach is around a 15-minute walk away. You don't have to reserve the sun loungers, and they're free if you eat or drink at the restaurant. Bus stop number 8 is almost right outside, with rides to Heraklion or Malia for €2.40. You can buy tickets on the bus. Evina Rooms & Suite belongs to neighboring Erato Hotel, where meals are served. It's family-run and has a friendly feel. Breakfast isn't anything special, but there's enough to get the day started, and the evening buffet changed daily. Maria is the heart of the place in the evenings, always smiling and friendly even when it gets hectic. Our rooms were spacious and well equipped, with mosquito nets on every window and air conditioning in both rooms. There was a kettle, toaster, two-burner cooktop, and mini-oven, though no tea towel. Cleanliness is a priority. The property sits between a highway and local road, but as city dwellers, we weren't bothered. If you want a quiet, affordable holiday, it's a good place to stay.
