Metropole Urban Hotel

Room service worked well, and the shared areas were nice and clean, but I expected a better stay for the price. In room 304, half of the sliding shower door was missing. The remaining half leaked at the seams, leaving a lake beside the shower after every use. Staff told me it had happened two days before I arrived. The shower also smelled odd and had quite a few black spots. Several other things in the small, badly designed room, which I wouldn’t expect for a four-star hotel, seemed close to breaking: a chair, a ceiling light, and the bathroom towel hanger. The fridge was never refilled. Staff were OK, but not especially friendly. They often ignored me and didn’t say hello when I came back in the evening.

We stayed seven nights, and the maintenance problems in our three rooms were never sorted out. One shower had no door, so water went everywhere. On arrival, we were told its replacement was “on the boat from Athens,” but it never came. In another room, the bathroom light switches didn’t work properly. The hotel said the maintenance worker was “on the way” that day, but he never showed up, and the bathroom stayed quite dark. The website also gives inaccurate information: breakfast isn’t included with every reservation, there’s no airport shuttle, and not all rooms have balconies. Each of our rooms had a patio door that opened onto a grate or railing, with no balcony to step onto. This could be a good hotel if maintenance requests were handled faster and the website details were corrected.

The floor could have been a bit cleaner, but otherwise everything was perfect. Hacienda, the restaurant, wasn’t so good. For better food and service, go next door. The free breakfast is worth it at half the price.

From the hotel you can walk to everything, including the ferry, restaurants, and historical sights. The room was a decent size and well set up, and the staff were amazing. They arranged a very early check-in for us, which we really appreciated, and gave us great nearby restaurant recommendations. There’s an amazing view of the church and nearby courtyard. It can be a little noisy until around 11 pm if you like sleeping with the door open, but with it closed the noise wasn’t a concern. Breakfast comes from the restaurant next door and is served a bit like London high tea. It was all quite tasty!
