Village Heights Resort

We loved the range of facilities here, especially for a family with children. There were pools for relaxing and having fun, and we ate delicious food throughout the stay. The staff were welcoming and attentive, and the views were breathtaking. We had a wonderful time at the resort and will come back on our next trip to Crete.

The location is convenient, about 20 minutes from the airport, though it's a long drive to popular places like Chania or Rethymno. Our room was upgraded to a one-bedroom apartment, which was lovely, but the toilet flush started failing at random. My boyfriend had to fix it with his plumbing skills, and by our last day we couldn't get it working at all. We also enjoyed the cooking class, but at €60 pp I expected more actual cooking than rolling some dough and chopping salad. The pools were the biggest letdown. Both the outdoor pools and the indoor spa pool look basic and dated for a 5* hotel, and the outdoor water was freezing, literally colder than the sea. For September and October guests, they should be at least a little heated. Since that would only be needed for around 1.5-2 months of the year, the extra cost can't be that high. Other 5* hotels I've visited in autumn, from Egypt to Turkey, heat their pools as standard. The tiles also look old, with cracks along the pool sides. New mosaic tiles could make them look much more luxurious, though that's a matter of taste. Even with those issues, we'd stay again. It's a quiet, green and beautiful hotel, the staff are very friendly, the cocktails are delicious, and the mini supermarket is handy. One small suggestion for the kitchenette apartments: please leave more than 2 dishwasher tabs, and add salt and pepper too. Ours had run out.

We had a great time. Our room was upgraded for free and had everything we needed, including a balcony where we could have coffee or dinner while looking out at the sea, mountains, villages and blue skies. The pool was nice, the staff were very friendly, and the views and atmosphere were wonderful. The resort was even better than we expected. There was live music, a spa and plenty more, and we got to play the piano in the library too. ❤️

The resort is beautiful and has a fantastic view north toward the Mediterranean. It's a large property, and staff were happy to drive us around in a golf cart when needed, whether for the kids, older guests or bags. The rooms are simple and rustic. You're not right next to anything, though Hersonissou isn't far. The kids' room has daily crafts, with other activities offered each day too. Staff were friendly, helpful and spoke good English.
