Alkionides Pension

I felt safe here after my plans suddenly left me holidaying on my own, thanks to Stella and Kristina, the wonderful cleaning lady. The place was spotless, and the welcome basket in the fridge with jam, butter, crispbread, and daily water was much appreciated. It’s tucked in a courtyard off one of the main streets, not far from the harbour, which helped when getting luggage over the cobbles. It’s hard work, though everyone does it! Hydra is beautifully quiet at night with no traffic noise, then springs to life with boats and tourists all day and evening. I enjoyed the coastal walks and recommend the thrilling speedboat taxi to plaka beach. Restaurant prices varied a lot, but I found some more reasonable places to eat. The EU bakery at the harbour is one I can recommend.

The host is very friendly, and this place suits anyone who values good looks and cleanliness and wants to be near the port. We’ll very likely book here again next year.

The bathroom smell was a bit of a letdown, maybe from the pipes, but we still had an enjoyable stay and will definitely come back. The room was big enough, very clean, and we got fresh towels every day. It’s a good spot, close to the center but peaceful, and a lovely place to stay.

Our hostess was very polite and welcoming. The pension is well placed in the heart of Hydra, a few steps from the port but away from the noise. Rooms were cleaned daily, with fresh towels, bed linen, water, and coffee. The bathroom had a smell, and the AC in our room seemed to have just one setting: freezing.
