We booked the ‘Sponges’ suite for the four of us. It had a huge balcony with lovely gardens and lemon and fig trees. The antique furniture was beautiful, the towels were good, the bed linen was exceptional, and the air conditioning worked well. Breakfast was delicious too. The boutique hotel itself was stunning, one of the best places I've stayed. It's about a ten-minute walk from the port and restaurants, and Leonard Cohens house is around the same distance. Giannis welcomed us and gave us really helpful restaurant and beach suggestions. Most island beaches require a boat from the port, and they're well worth the trip. We loved Hydra's architecture, plants, beaches, sunsets, food and local people, as well as this hotel. We'd book it again if we return.

Yannis made our four days at Cotommatae Hydra feel easy and special. He helped arrange a boat for the day and pointed us to the best beaches and restaurants. We felt so well looked after, and that made all the difference. The hotel is quiet, spotless, charming and beautiful, with a great location for exploring the island on foot. We'd absolutely come back. Highly recommended!

The Cellar room was spacious and beautiful, but its low doorways and crossbeams make it a poor fit for anyone over 6 feet (180cm). The climate units are linked, so if another guest has the heat on, you can't use air conditioning. Reception also has limited hours, and there's no clear after-hours contact info. You have to call the main number listed here in Google Maps. That said, this is a gorgeous estate turned hotel, with seven distinctive rooms, friendly staff, a delicious breakfast and even a tortoise on site. The ten-minute uphill walk from the port is worth it, and you can hire a mule for the luggage. I'd stay again.

The location is really good, and Giannis at reception is a big plus. He's a wonderful person, always polite and upbeat. Very nice hotel in Hydra!

A charming, stylish 19th-century house that's been kept in beautiful condition. The service was warm and breakfast was great. It's right in central Hydra, yet tucked away from the port noise.
