Glaros Guesthouse

The only real plus for me was the location at the port and the lower price compared with other hotels. The overall condition was poor, and I wouldn’t stay at Glaros Guesthouse again. I should have read other people’s reviews before booking. Our room was meant to have one bed for two guests, but we were given two separate beds. The place felt completely abandoned, with very old furniture, paint marks on the doors, extremely dirty walls, visible wear, and problems with both the windows and walls. The bathroom was so cramped I could barely shower. Our towels and sheets weren’t changed during the stay, and the sheets and blankets looked like they were from the 1990s. On checkout day, an elderly man, probably the owner, knocked and tried to enter while we were sleeping. We were also abruptly told to leave at 10 a.m. instead of 12 p.m. because new guests were coming.

My booking at Glaros Guesthouse was changed without my knowledge or consent. The travel dates suddenly shifted after I’d booked my flights and planned everything, and I was left stressed and stranded without support. I called several times without getting an answer. When I finally reached someone, they were unhelpful and unprofessional, saying, “We don’t know what happened” and “It’s not our fault.” There was no real explanation, solution, or apology. The attitude felt careless and disrespectful. This was one of the worst guesthouse experiences I’ve had, and a complete disaster. If reliability, communication, and basic respect matter to you, I strongly advise booking somewhere else. This treatment of paying guests is absolutely unacceptable.

I didn’t stay there myself, but I sent my art tutor to check out Hydra. The hotel’s location is convenient, and communication was great.

The courtyard was lovely, and our room for four had a loft, a small kitchen, and space outside to hang wet clothes. Shops and restaurants were right outside, and the ferry was only a 5 minute walk away. On an island with no car service, being able to walk everywhere really matters. All in all, Hydra and Glaros hotel are places to remember, and I’d stay again despite a few things I’d change. WiFi only worked beside the office, not in the rooms, which could be a problem if you’re on an international plan and trying to save data. The shower was tiny, and the wet curtain clung to you. We were there in August, when the heat was exhausting, so we wanted a nice shower a couple of times a day, but the curtain made it unpleasant each time. I’d suggest using a thick plastic one, at minimum. I’d read reviews about a loud knock at early checkout, and sure enough, we got one at 10.30. I’d forgotten the checkout time, so that was my fault. We went to the seaside restaurant by the ferry and enjoyed drinks and the harbor view instead.
