Katia Hotel

The staff were really sweet, and the pool was cool 😎. The hotel isn’t bad, but it needs to be kept in better shape, with repairs and paintwork. Guests want rooms to look perfect like the photos. The kitchen and breakfast were about a 3 out of 5 and could be better. The bar and bartenders were good 👍. The coffee and juice machines are very old and need to be sold off. The garbage containers should be closed because of the smell.

We had a quiet apartment at the back, with olive trees from our balcony instead of the pool. It was about a ten-minute bus ride to Rhodes, and the single ticket cost 2.30 euros. The hotel was peaceful, with modern, clean pool areas, and our room was nicely presented with what looked like a newly fitted bathroom. The staff were lovely, especially at the bar, and the smoothies were the best! The bakery opposite was amazing, and the car rental place across the road was very helpful. We’d also recommend Whispers next door for dinner. Katia is a short walk from Lalysos beach, with plenty of other restaurants around. For self-catering, bring washing-up liquid and a sponge, as none was provided.

The pool area was nice, the hotel was clean, the bar was good, and the staff were very friendly. We had some really tasty cocktails, and being able to step straight from our room into the pool was a lovely feature. We booked through Tui and knew this was a two-star place, so our expectations weren’t high. The room for two adults and two teenagers still let us down. The beds were comfortable, but the sofa bed was very uncomfortable. A sliding door divided the rooms, but it was more like a screen. The bathroom had glass from floor to ceiling, which meant no privacy at all. This wasn’t explained before the holiday, and I think we’d have asked to change rooms if we’d known. Air conditioning cost 70 for the week, which felt like a rip-off, but we couldn’t have managed without it. Late checkout cost 50 euro for the day, and we were allowed to spend it in a different, more modern room that was much nicer. The pool for those rooms was much smaller and not cold. There were also lots of insects by the room because of the field beside the hotel. The staff and pool area were lovely, but we wouldn’t return.

The service was very good. The same people looked after us all week, and they were welcoming and attentive. There was a good choice of food and drinks at fair prices, and we liked the bar and restaurant area. A shop next door had everything we needed, and the owner was very friendly. Supermarkets were also just a short walk away. The hotel is well located for the main area of bars, restaurants, and the beach, and a taxi into town is quick. We booked through TUI for May '23, and it was a good budget option in Rhodes. The hotel and room were kept very clean, the bathroom was good, and the bed and bedding were adequate. But the room was basic and a bit lacking. Pool towels weren’t very good, so I’d bring your own. For self-catering, I expected a bit more in the kitchen. We couldn’t really cook, though it worked for coffee and a sandwich. We had a balcony room, but the ground-floor rooms looked like a better choice. The pool area also didn’t feel comfortable or inviting enough to spend much time in. I think they could offer a little more, and slightly better quality, without raising prices. I understand it’s family-run, but booking through TUI made me expect better accommodation and amenities. That’s why I’m giving four stars instead of five. Rhodes has lots of options, and this place is worth considering if your budget doesn’t stretch to somewhere fancier.
