Summerland Hotel & Bungalows

We stayed in June 2025 and are already planning another trip here. The hotel is clean, with a lovely big pool, air conditioning, WiFi, and a range of breakfast food and drinks at very good prices. The staff were friendly and went out of their way to help us. The barman’s brilliant sense of humour had us in stitches for hours. We’ll definitely stay again.

We found it good value and would definitely recommend it. The room was clean, the pool area lovely, and the staff were friendly and helped whenever we needed it. It’s in a nice, quiet area. Air conditioning costs a small extra amount, but works amazingly well. Hair dryers and irons are available from reception if you need one. We’ll be back.

On my last day, I told the manager that the way we had been treated was unacceptable. She screamed at me and called me a liar. Then one of the cleaning staff tried to attack me physically. She tried to pull my suitcase out of my hands, threatened to punch me and hit me in the stomach. I pushed her away to defend myself as the manager repeatedly tried to hold her back. The staff member also tried to spit at me, then later tried to grab a metal trash can as a weapon. Several other guests witnessed this, and I have video of it. The hotel is denying it happened. My wife and I spent our stay counting down the days until we could leave. I’ve never experienced anything so shocking or unprofessional in a hotel. The place was run-down and dirty, and the staff were aggressive and unsafe to be around. For your own safety and peace of mind, don’t book here. We stayed at Rhodos Summerland Hotel and Bungalows, and it was by far the worst hotel experience I’ve had. The rooms were dirty, worn out and falling apart, with insects throughout. The bathroom felt unsafe and unhygienic: the shower was broken, the glass shelf was barely attached to the wall, and the food was extremely poor with very few choices. They didn’t even have French fries for sale. The staff were rude and unprofessional, and many guests, including me, were very unhappy with the service. They spoke disrespectfully and enforced rules that made no sense. I could use swimming goggles and a nose clip, but my travel partner couldn’t use a diving mask that also covered the nose. On another occasion, staff shouted at my travel partner for washing off with shampoo in an outdoor shower after checkout. That shower was far from the pool, and there were no other facilities available to us. When we first raised our concerns at reception, a rude male staff member said he couldn’t do anything because they were fully booked. After I contacted the travel company I booked through and sent photos of the room, they told me to return to reception in the morning. A hotel staff member called then and said another room was available to view. We took it because we were abroad on an island and felt stranded, with nowhere else to go. It was still nowhere near a four-star room, more like a very basic two-star. At least it was cleaner, though there were tiny ants in the bathroom coming through a drain. Reviews suggested ants might be a problem at the hotel. I dealt with them myself because we couldn’t face another move to a room that might be worse, so I didn’t report them. The first room looked grubby and like it belonged to another era, nothing like four-star accommodation. There was a live cockroach in the bathroom, which was very small, and the toilet had dirt marks around the top of the bowl. Red marks were on the tap, mirror and door. The old shower was in an outdated bath with a dirty curtain and mould, and the soap dispensers, including one in the bath, looked like they came from public toilets. There was hair on the bed, questionable brown marks on the sheets, a dirty stained pillow, a chipped bed board, stained and ripped curtains, and a large sticky mark on the wooden dresser, possibly old chewing gum. Looking back, I should have checked the reviews first. The many negative reviews and comments mean I wouldn’t have chosen this place. It shouldn’t be rated four stars because that misrepresents reality.

We had a good stay, and I liked the view from my room. The staff had a good attitude and gave helpful suggestions about local places, so I’d trust their recommendations. The pool is cute and the room was tidy, though the shower looked a bit shabby.
