Aar Hotel & Spa Ioannina

The beds and comfort in the room were very good, and I really liked the balcony. The hotel seems fine from the outside, but inside there are some odd things. There's no sound insulation, so you hear a lot from the corridor. I visited when the weather was a bit cool and wished the room were warmer, but I couldn't heat it at all. I went to breakfast early, and as other comments say, the eggs really were cold, which I found quite interesting. In the morning, I spoke with the receptionist about getting an invoice for my company. It took around 40 minutes, maybe even an hour. I don't understand why it had to be so difficult. She also tried to charge me again for the tax I'd already paid through the booking site, insisting I pay 10€ two or three times. I stood my ground, since I'd paid it already, and eventually she gave up.

The staff were unfriendly, smoking on the balcony instead of looking after guests. When the staff finally arrived at 8 a.m., there was no apology or offer of a refund. At 3 a.m. on our second night, a pipe under the bathroom sink burst, and water spread through our room and three neighboring rooms. Nobody was at reception, so I waited in the lobby until morning. A Greek couple in the room next door helped by closing the pipe with a towel. It was a very unpleasant experience, especially since I had a panic attack and became really anxious when the water burst. An apology would at least have made it more acceptable. Breakfast was cold boiled eggs from the day before and spam instead of bacon. The gym wasn't available, even though it was one of my main reasons for booking this place. The resort doesn't meet a premium standard. Don't book this hotel if you need medical assistance. I reserved three nights in June.

The hotel was spotless, but it doesn't feel like a four-star spa hotel. There was no insulation: I heard every guest in the outside hallway, and could hear the next room watching football and commenting on every kick, as well as their bathroom habits. They were so loud while checking in that I had to go into the hallway to speak to them. They were polite and tried to keep the noise down, but the night manager got angry with me and seemed to give no thought to us. Road noise starts at 5 a.m. They can't control the road, but earplugs would help guests who don't bring their own. A blue light on the air conditioning and heating unit stays on all night and needs a cover. The synthetic linen is much noisier than cotton, and the sink was cracked. TV channels are basic, with no cable. Breakfast was okay, though we'd had better at a three-star hotel the night before. The indoor pool opens at odd hours with no explanation, and you have to book outside its timetable, which makes planning difficult while travelling. There's no lifeguard requirement, so I don't understand the set hours. The gym is a tiny, depressing basement room that also has odd hours, opening at 11 a.m. after breakfast, with no one supervising. I don't see why it needs set hours.

We were so disappointed with our stay at the Aar Hotel & Spa. Although the exterior looked modern and the lobby welcoming, our room was another story. There was long women's hair scattered around, including on the sheets, and the bathtub smelled strongly of mildew. Dirt and dust were visible throughout, so it clearly hadn't been cleaned properly. They moved us to another room, but we found the same problems there. The poor cleanliness and maintenance were appalling, so we cancelled the reservation and didn't stay the night. I strongly advise people to think twice before booking at the Aar Hotel & Spa. It doesn't meet basic cleanliness standards or provide a comfortable, hygienic stay. 🚮👎
