La Suite Boutique Hotel & Spa

I wish I’d looked for more candid reviews before booking. For the price, and for somewhere calling itself a boutique hotel, quite a few things need work. The room was a decent size with a lovely view, and the bed and cushions were comfortable, but we had to unplug the fridge because it was so loud, like road works. The furniture was scratched, the paint marked, the faux leather headboard was peeling, and the bathroom door handle was dodgy. The room felt dated and needed some care. We chose to stay outside town because we wanted peace and quiet, but we could hear people in the rooms either side showering and using the toilet right behind our heads. There were noisy children next door, guests upstairs clomping around in heels and dropping things, and voices and slamming doors echoed from the corridors. We only managed to sleep from midnight to 6 a.m. once the neighbours settled down. It wasn’t the romantic break we’d hoped for. The service was below standard. The breakfast attendant was passive aggressive, though she was also the staff member we saw most during our three days there. We saw only three staff members in total, and often had to call several times to reach someone at the frequently empty desk, especially at night. The room came with cheap all-in-one shower gel and shampoo and one use of slippers. For Greece, it’s expensive for what you get, and the hotel and amenities don’t match the price or the boutique label. Plenty of cheaper places offer better quality.

Our suite at La Suite in Ioannina was spacious, modern and really comfortable. The welcome and service were excellent, with professional staff who made us feel at home. We had a fantastic stay and would happily come back. I highly recommend it if you’re visiting Ioannina.

Our family suite cost a lot, but the fridge and phone in the room didn’t work. The curtain wasn’t properly fixed and came down on our daughter’s head, along with the heavy wooden board holding it up. We had to go down several floors to speak to reception because the phone was out of order. When we raised these problems, the reception staff were indifferent and didn’t address them at all. Shame on the hotel.

We expected a relaxing family holiday, but spent our time chasing the hotel over a safety problem and poor service. On the first night, the curtain and its heavy wooden frame fell onto my daughter’s bed and nearly hurt her. The room phone didn’t work, so we went to reception, where staff showed little concern and offered no real help. I had to ask for tools and fix the hazard myself. They said maintenance would come the next morning, but when we got back later that day, nothing had been done. After we asked repeatedly, the receptionist proposed moving us to a room three floors away from our children. We said no, and were then told a technician might come around 8 p.m. It was a frustrating, deeply disappointing experience, with little professionalism or regard for guest safety.
