George & Irene Hotel

For more than 100€ a night, neither the room nor the service felt worth it. We ended our trip in a much better hotel for the same price. I regret having to write this, but this was the most disappointing stay I’ve had in Greece across multiple islands. The listing on booking didn’t explain clearly what counted as a standard room versus a « chambre supérieure ». I only found out after arriving in a room I hadn’t expected and reading comments that the standard rooms look old, unlike the « renovated » ones. If the photos and description had made that clear, I wouldn’t have minded choosing a room I actually liked. The listing also said Gialos beach was 500m away, but it’s actually 1,2km. The towels smelled of mold and had to be changed, and we had to ask for basics like shower gel. The hair dryer didn’t work, though the young man brought us another one. The air conditioning stopped working at one point, but the young man got it going again. The worst part was coming back after a long day out to find the balcony doors, which we had closed, wide open. Our terrace connects to the others, so anyone could have gotten into our room. Thankfully, all our things were still there. If you like your room and only run into small problems that can be fixed, your stay may go smoothly. But when we needed to speak with the owner, Irene, we found her unprofessional. She first said she didn’t care and that we could leave a bad comment, although we hadn’t threatened to do that. She denied what had happened. Later, when speaking with my mother, she countered that our blankets had been on the floor when the cleaning lady came in, which wasn’t true, and said we’d put our balcony chairs in the shared garden. We had only moved them within our balcony. Neither point seemed relevant. I also saw the same kind of response under negative comments. She told us we could leave if we weren’t happy, without reimbursement, obviously, or call the police. She clearly said a professional worker can have whatever attitude they want. That felt selfish and ego driven, with no regard for customers. Greece is known for its hospitality, and I felt this owner disregarded that and failed to represent one of the country’s most valued qualities.
