Cavo Doro Hotel

The room was spacious and clean, but there was hardly any storage and no tea or coffee facilities. We were on a B&B deal, which I’m glad about because breakfast was poor and seemed suited only to Europeans. The other people there were ignorant too. The pool area was grubby and lifeless, and the whole hotel felt dead. We’ve just spent ten days here.

During our week’s holiday, money was taken from a wallet kept in our suitcase. The hotel barely responded. Only hotel staff are supposed to have access to the room, but I’m not accusing anyone. We didn’t use the safe because we never thought money could be stolen from a locked room.

The location worked well for shops, tavernas, and the beach, which was fairly close and fine. Breakfast was acceptable, with both hot and cold options. We were there on a bed-and-breakfast basis, and most days we went down the road to a much cleaner, more welcoming pool and used its bar. The room didn’t impress me. There was a shower and toilet in the bathroom, but no sink there; it was next to the fridge in the room, which was very inconvenient. The pool area at the hotel itself was grubby and unwelcoming. After many trips to Greece, we understand the Greek way, but paying the climate tax at the four-star rate felt wrong when the hotel clearly wasn’t four stars. Three stars is 5€, while four is 10€, so that doubles the nightly charge. I won’t return to Cavo doro; it felt more like a two-star place than a four-star one.

The location was nice, and the food was acceptable, but the rest of our stay at Cavo D’Oro, Kalamaki was deeply disappointing. The room and bathroom felt neglected and weren’t clean. We got torn, old towels, the pillows looked dirty and poorly maintained, and the bed linen wasn’t changed regularly. Staff seemed indifferent when we complained. It appears poorly managed and offers extremely low value for money. We wouldn’t recommend Cavo D’Oro to anyone wanting a comfortable, worry-free holiday in Kalamaki.
