Alsos Ηouse Kalabaka

The terrace and balconies make for a comfortable place to sit outdoors, and breakfast was one of the better inn buffets I've had. The staff are kind, and the whole place is very clean. At Alsos House in Kalabaka, the rooms are comfortable and the bathroom and shower are spacious. A perfect place to stay.

A very nice three-star hotel, with comfortable rooms and a great view. Breakfast gives you a good start if you're planning to hike up to the monasteries.

The location is excellent: a clear trail to the Holy Trinity monastery starts about six minutes away. It's somewhat steep but easy to follow, then just a short walk onward to St. Stephanos. Excellent restaurants are seven minutes downhill, and above the hotel there's a Taverna where you can get food, coffee or beer whenever you like. The stay was quiet, the people lovely, and the rooms and apartments clean, comfortable and snug. Athanasia is the loveliest hostess I've ever met in a hotel. Breakfast is homemade and fabulous, and she makes fresh coffee all day. I can't wait to return.

I wasn't expecting much, so the quality of the place surprised me. The tiled bathroom was beautifully done, and both the wooden furniture and tiled patio were nice. The view, location and very comfortable bed were the highlights. Check-in was frustrating, though: nobody was there, and no one picked up the phone number we were told to call. I had to go Nextdoor, which is owned by the same person or family, to get help. The person who came over moved at about 1 mph, and it was late after a long day. Service was personable but slow. Breakfast was fine, and we ate there because getting into town for something better at a similar price would have taken too long. It runs from 8-10am, so on the first day we had to scarf it down to make our guided hike by 8:20. We booked a double but got a triple room with a really nice balcony. I wasn't about to complain about an upgrade, but from other reviews it sounds like you may not get the room you expect.
