The room was clean, the kitchen had new, fully equipped appliances, and there was a spacious parking area. The newly built compound also had a pleasant yard full of flowers and a small playground. Kalamitsa beach, with sandy patches, sunbeds and a tavern, was a five minute walk away. The uphill stretch on the way back may not suit everyone, especially with lots of belongings, so driving could be easier. We managed fine, and the climb did give us a nice view over the bay. We stayed as a couple in July 2019, at the same time as friends who had a child. We’d agreed by phone to have a room the same size and price as theirs, but on arrival we got a small ground floor room with an even smaller bathroom. Our friends’ room upstairs was twice the size. They never adjusted our price despite our request, and no receipt was issued. The main reason the stay felt mediocre was the bed and bedding. The furniture, mattress and all the linen seemed very old and second hand, and we didn’t sleep comfortably.

The owners were so kind and ready to help that we felt truly welcome at Thalassia Studios. The apartments were spacious and comfortable, with a fully equipped kitchen and lovely sea views from the balcony each morning. Kalamitsa is peaceful and quiet, and the crystal clear water is very close by. A wonderful choice for a relaxing holiday in Skyros.

What made Thalassia studios feel special was the family’s hospitality. Marianna, Amersa and Kostas welcomed us warmly. From the first day, Marianna made lots for us to eat, including loukoumades, homemade biscuits, jam, fruit and vegetables from their garden. We even took some vegetables back to Rome and ate them over the next couple of days. Amersa sent a detailed email about places to visit and helped arrange a reasonably priced rental car, delivered to the aiport. The agent was Lefteris, and Amersa has his phone number. The rooms were very clean and spacious, and we could watch the sunset. It’s a quiet spot on top of a hill with wide panoramic sea views, about five minutes by car from the port. You can reach Chora or Linaria port in five minutes by car, and walk to the beach. There’s a nearby taverna with generous portions of great food, called Manolos or something similar, I think. We found the place by browsing Google maps, and got an immediate, helpful reply when we contacted them. It’s also recommended for families, as there are rooms and gardens for children.

Mrs. Marianna sent us a detailed guide to places to visit and eat before we arrived. She was very polite, and the apartment was clean, with a private balcony overlooking the sea. The apartments are close to Kalamitsa beach, about 150m away, and spacious enough to cook every day in the full kitchen. There’s a normal sized fridge, toaster and gas cooker for making Greek coffee. They also have air conditioning, TV, wifi, mosquito repellent, roomy bathrooms and parking.
