John's Apartments

John was welcoming and very accommodating, and I’d happily recommend staying here. The apartment has two balconies and sits right in the city center, with easy access to several beaches, restaurants, and shops.

For families with small children like ours, the house needs some care and attention. Several things were broken or awkward to use: the siphon was clogged, so washing the veranda after the wind left us with a flooded area; the balcony door handles kept coming loose, and I tightened them with a screwdriver I had brought, but they loosened straight away. The bedroom shelves were hanging off, the bathtub tap needs replacing and made it take about 15 minutes to get the water temperature right each time, the toilet seat was broken, and the refrigerator door shelf for bottles had a large hole. A broom and mop would be useful for a family, as would kitchen paper or a towel, coffee, and sugar. Since there’s a washing machine, a couple of detergent capsules would help. We had to buy a large amount of detergent and fabric softener just to do two loads. These things wouldn’t cost the owner much to fix, but they would have made our stay much more comfortable, especially since we spent a lot of time indoors with a baby. The furniture is very cheap, and that made it hard to relax inside. The large balcony is lovely, but it only had a small square table and four very uncomfortable chairs, so we couldn’t enjoy breakfast or sit out in the evening to take in the view. Maybe someone who just wants to sleep and spend the rest of the time outside wouldn’t mind, but these details would have made a big difference for us. Giannis, though, was very kind and helpful, always willing to help with anything we asked. The house is large and in a perfect location: use the car for the sea in the morning, then everything is within walking distance for an afternoon stroll. The air conditioning issue mentioned by other reviewers has been fixed, and all the rooms have air conditioning.

There are plenty of restaurants within a 300-meter walk, along a pleasant boulevard serving authentic Greek food. The area isn’t overrun with tourists, and sandy beaches are also within walking distance. The apartment itself is spacious and tidy, with a large room and bedroom and a balcony with a beautiful view. We arrived two days late because of airplane problems, and John offered us two extra days free on our next visit as compensation. Excellent.
