San Giorgio Villa

We could see Monastery St Nicholas from our room's balcony. It's 1 km away, and the hotel is right at the foot of the giant rock formations, with beautiful surroundings. We stayed two nights in this lovely little hotel.

A cozy place below the limestone cliffs and a monastery, and a great base for visiting Meteora. The receptionist was very kind and spoke good English.

The shared kitchen had no way to wash the dishes, even though guests are told to leave it clean. That was one more frustrating detail in a stay that already felt pretty unpleasant. We booked two rooms expecting balconies with mountain views, but got rooms below ground level with no view. The room and breakfast area had an outdated, communist-style look, and the rooms were less cared for than the photos suggested. At least the sheets and towels were clean, so we stayed since we had paid already. The bathroom was a bigger problem. The tub was too cramped to shower comfortably, water poured from the floor siphon and nearly flooded the room, and the toilet wouldn't flush properly, with the water rising almost to the floor. The bathroom wall and curtain were dirty, and the lack of basic utilities added to how grossed out we felt. Breakfast was cheap, as expected, but the coffee was awful. At reception, the woman acted strangely when we said we spoke Greek. She seemed unable to believe us, as if she were superior, and corrected our grammar in an unfriendly way, though we're not native speakers.

The location is great, but the rooms were in poor shape and felt like a waste of money. The photos on booking.com and Google don't match what you get. The place had a shelter-like feel rather than a hotel, with shabby, dirty furniture and a stained bed and pillows. The rooms were old and smelled bad. We had to throw the disgusting, smelly carpets onto the balcony just so we could stay in the room. I wouldn't stay there.
