Pension Sofia Amorgos

Sofia was a pleasure to deal with, and the setting beside a beautiful botanical garden was lovely. There were birds, a turtle and great coffee, plus doves singing from the cozy balcony and a gorgeous sunset. Cats came by in the morning too. It’s just a three-minute walk from the port, with some steps, but my parents in their late 70s managed them without trouble. The internet was unreliable and slowed down when several devices were connected. The beds were the one real drawback, though they were tolerable and didn’t spoil the stay. I’d recommend the place, and my family will definitely come back.

The only reason I’ve given four stars is that some visitors may find the slow climb up to the property and the steep stairs to the upper floor difficult. Otherwise, the rooms are clean and well equipped, and the surroundings are lovely. The friendly, helpful owners manage it well, with excellent cleaning staff on site.

I loved the garden and the peaceful feel, especially hearing the roosters next door, watching the sunrise and spending evenings on the terrace. My room was spacious and clean, with a small kitchen area and a view over the grapevines and mountains. It took me a little while to find the pension, but it’s not far uphill from the port. The WiFi was good enough for a few video calls. Sofia was lovely and had helpful ideas for places to explore and eat. Trying her mom’s homemade raki was an unexpected treat. I can’t wait to come back!

The location is a little out of town, though still accessible, and the garden and vineyard around it are very pleasant. My room was spotless and had a fitted kitchen and a balcony with a lovely sea view. The bathroom had been recently renovated. The beds were the weak point: a bit old, with a hard mattress. Very good value for money.
