The Olive Grove Cottage with private swimming pool

Fofi was so welcoming and helpful, always around if we needed anything. The pool was lovely, with plenty of loungers for sun or shade under the trees and umbrellas. There are lots of little spots to sit around the house, which gives the place a cozy feel, and the spacious house had everything we needed. It was such a peaceful oasis. We can’t wait to come back!

We were glad to stay near the authentic village of Archanes, and it was only a short trip into town. Our two families made good use of the superb pool, especially the kids. The host was quick to respond and her suggestions were spot on, including some brilliant restaurant recommendations.

The garden and pool were the best part for us, though the villa’s view was lovely too. On the owners’ recommendation, we walked into the forest of Fourni behind the villa and watched the sunset over Iraklion. Indoors, it’s spacious, comfortable, nicely decorated, and fully equipped, with plenty of books to read. The Writers Repose sits among hills, olive groves, and vineyards in Archanes, just outside Iraklion. It feels like a hidden paradise. The village has little streets to explore, a tree-lined main square with cafes, and enough restaurants for anything from a snack to dinner. We especially liked Kritamon for Cretan food with a modern twist and Agora for small meze. There are local wineries nearby, and Knossos is a seven minute drive away.

Fofi took great care of us, with helpful, capable service and good English. The cleaning and fresh sheets and towels happened a few times each week. We worked online for a week and the WiFi was fine. The villas are tastefully furnished, and the grounds are spacious and quiet, near both the forest and a village, while still close to Heraklion. A top spot, and one we’d happily return to.
