We left after two nights instead of the five we’d booked, and were fortunate to find somewhere else that actually suited our family and matched its listing. We’d chosen this place on AirBnB because it was advertised as an entire home, and with four of us we need more room than a single bedroom. In reality, it was two connected bedrooms, a cramped bathroom, and no kitchen. There was a small fridge with a couple of plates and cutlery on top, but nowhere to cook: no stove, sink, or meal-prep space. The listing also showed a large terrace with a table and big sofa, but that turned out to be a shared area. The balcony for our unit was tiny, barely big enough for two chairs. Its two condenser units were filthy and rusty, so we didn’t use the air conditioning because we didn’t want it circulating polluted air in the rooms. The shower leaked through a hole in the floor, leaving water all over the bathroom, which also smelled bad. The doors, inside and out, were very old and shedding paint, and the front door scraped the floor whenever it opened or closed. The photos and description gave us a misleading picture of the accommodation.

Maro and Irini made our holiday feel unforgettable. Their hospitality was incomparable, and we’re already hoping to return next year. The room was spotless and really comfortable, with an astonishing view of Kastro. After a full day at the beach, sitting on the balcony with a frappe and resting before drinks in Apolonia was such a lovely way to unwind. I’ve been visiting Sifnos for years and have loved it every time, but staying at Maro made this trip especially memorable.

The bus stop is right outside the entrance, with buses to Apollonia, the centre for getting around the island, so the place works well whether you have a car or not. Our hosts were lovely, and the room was clean, thoughtfully decorated, and had a nice modern bathroom. The view across Kástro was amazing. We even got up early one morning to watch the sun rise over it from our balcony.

The view of Castro is stunning, and the rooms are spotlessly clean with plenty of thoughtful details. We had an amazing stay at To Maro. Maro herself was the best part, so warm, welcoming, and gentle.
