Maggana Residence

The main drawback is getting there. The road to Maggana Residence is narrow, and it can be stressful to drive through when traffic is busy, especially if you're exploring the island by car. Once you arrive, though, it's peaceful, and the surroundings are beautiful. The apartments are well maintained, the pool is clean and relaxing, and the staff were friendly and helpful. It was a pleasant, comfortable stay and a solid four stars.

The apartment itself was spacious, clean, and smelled nice. The beds were large and quite comfortable, the bathroom modern, and the air-conditioning worked well and was cold. The small pool was clean too. The airport is audible, with planes landing and taking off. The property is very rural and out of the way, with no crowds or traffic, but there are many flights of stairs, so it may not work for anyone with mobility issues. Our four-day stay in peak August got off to a bad start. We had booked a 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom Maisonette but were given a 2-bedroom, 1-bathroom Apartment instead. Staff said our unit had been double-booked and couldn't move us to a maisonette, though they did compensate us for the mistake. The king bedroom had no air-conditioning unit and was hot at night. There were a few broken things, including door hinges and a trash can, and a large stain on the rug that looked like it might be from an old spill. The website says laundry service is available, but there wasn't any. Breakfast was typical Greek fare, such as scrambled eggs, pitas and pies, pastries, bread, and coffee. There was no staff on site. We had to call to check in, with the keys left in the door, and call the host if we needed anything. It felt strange not to have anyone there. In the end, the unit was just okay. We’ve stayed in much nicer places in Greece for lower prices.

The food was a real highlight. Breakfast had a big range of tasty choices, and the restaurant served some of the best Greek food I've had. Everything tasted fresh and was well prepared. The rooms were modern, spacious, and nicely designed, with a very comfortable bed that let me sleep well each night. The bathroom had a large shower and all the amenities I needed. Maggana Residence sits on a beautiful hillside above the clear Ionian Sea, and the views were breathtaking from the pool and terrace. The pool itself was clean and refreshing, with plenty of loungers and umbrellas. From the start, the staff were very friendly and accommodating, and the facilities were top-notch. I'd highly recommend it for a relaxing, luxurious holiday in Kefalonia.

You’ll need a car here. The city is a little far, and public transport is poor, though the property is near a few beaches. It’s quiet, with a nice view from the third floor, and you can see planes taking off and landing. The airport is close, but the plane noise wasn’t too bad. The apartments are roomy, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was tasty, with fresh traditional food. The pool is small, with room for about 2-3 people to swim normally, and there’s a separate jacuzzi area. It isn’t suitable for small kids. There were a few minor repairs needed inside the apartment, nothing important. WiFi and modest parking are available. Recommended.
