Villa Giorgos

The hosts were as helpful as could be, and this was clean, comfortable accommodation in a great location for the price. If we come back to Kos, we wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.

We were cycling in mid-December and, assuming Kefalos would be quiet because it was out of season, hadn’t booked anywhere. That turned out to be a mistake. We reached the village around five in the afternoon and found almost everyone busy with an early Christmas celebration. When we asked about a room, people just looked at each other, as if visitors were a surprise. We sat in a cafe with our bikes and searched online, trying a few places without luck. We were close to giving up and riding the 17 km to Kardamaina in the dark when we found Villa Giorgios. On the phone, a gentleman surprised us by saying he had a double bed available for the night. The address was a kilometre down the hill, at the near end of the beach, along an unpaved road a few hundred metres off the main road. We expected to make do with whatever accommodation we got. Instead, Mr. Karafyllis’s “double bed” turned out to be a whole summer house: a living room, two bedrooms, a fully equipped open kitchen, and a large balcony. We later realized it had a full view of the sunrise over the sea, which you can also watch from the bedroom. While we were getting our bed ready, Mr.Karafyllis opened a bottle of nice white wine for us as a welcome. After dinner in the village, we came back to find a plate of apple cookies from Mrs.Karafyllis on the table. That kindness made an already lovely surprise even warmer. We had a wonderful week. The staff were lovely and friendly, everything was very clean, and it’s only 3 minutes from the beach, lots of restaurants and orderly pubs. We’ll definitely be back next year.
