Avra Imperial Hotel

We had a lovely time in a wonderful suite with its own outdoor pool. The complex is beautifully kept, with lush gardens and a range of pools. Dining was high quality, and there's an elegant spa. Buses to Chania leave from right nearby.

Manolis was the heart of our stay. He showed us around our room, shared useful island tips, and greeted us warmly every day. We're grateful to have met him. Thank you, Manolis, for making the experience so special. Nadia welcomed us just as warmly when we arrived, and even surprised my mother with a lovely birthday treat. Our room was spacious, modern, and very comfortable. The pools were large and beautifully maintained, the buffet food was delicious and authentically prepared, and every staff member we met was kind and welcoming. At the spa, my mother and I had our hair done by Irini, and my father had an excellent massage with Marina. They were both very professional, and the whole team made us feel pampered. Diana at the jewellery boutique by reception was knowledgeable and kind when she helped us pick out gifts. We also booked the hotel's private airport transfer. Eftychios, apologies if we've misspelled the name, drove us both ways and made the trip comfortable. He was a pleasure to chat with, and we highly recommend the service. Avra really is paradise. We already miss it and can't wait to return.

The food was EXCELLENT, and the stay was wonderful. Drinks and service in general didn't feel worth the price. I'd happily go back, just not for what I paid.

For a 5-star property, this stay was very disappointing. The room was dated, cheaply furnished, and nothing like the photos online. The kettle was old, smelled burnt, and left residue in drinks. There was no daily bottled water, just the bare minimum of toiletries, and housekeeping was inconsistent and not thorough. Service felt unfriendly and unwelcoming throughout our 9-night stay. Staff rarely greeted us, there was no poolside service, and we felt like a burden rather than valued guests. Communication was chaotic too, with requests ignored and no one taking responsibility. At check-in, we arrived late with a child and were given no hotel information or anything to eat. Food was another letdown. Half-board guests were limited to the buffet, while other restaurants cost extra despite the very high rates. The hotel fell short on service, comfort, cleanliness, and dining.
