Hotel Karthea

The food was delicious, and the staff were warm and helpful. It's spotlessly clean and comfortable, with a great location right by the ferry.

Check-in and checkout were quick and easy, and the staff were always attentive and friendly. The room was comfortable and clean, with a cosy bed, necessary amenities, and a spotless bathroom stocked with good toiletries. The Karthea Hotel is well maintained and has a pleasant atmosphere. I had a lovely stay and would recommend it to anyone after a comfortable, welcoming place.

The bedding was appalling. The sheets were worn, the blanket smelled used, and a worn sheet was all that separated me from a public-use mattress with no cover. I slept in my clothes. The bathroom looked like it was from the 1970s, and showering was very impractical with the curtain. Wi-Fi didn't work, and despite my recording my devices failing to find a network in the room, staff kept saying it worked. I tried two or three times to get help, then gave up. I later discovered the reason for their behavior. I arrived with my wife for two nights. I'm Greek and she's a foreigner. After looking us over, the person in charge wouldn't speak to us and told the receptionist to tell us to come back later. On top of that, my wife was subjected to what I saw as an irrational racist attack by hotel staff, with defamatory and insulting accusations that had no basis. When asked to explain the claims, they backed down. Thankfully, I stepped in before she understood what the attack was about. She still thinks the issue they raised was legitimate, which at least means she won't think all Greeks are alike. Their behavior has now put me in the position of pursuing litigation. Avoid this place completely. It doesn't deserve to be associated with Greece.

Don't be put off by the plain-looking exterior when you arrive. Inside, the rooms are comfortable and everywhere is spotless. Everyone was so helpful, breakfast had great options, and it was really good value.
