We went to Mylos beach bar across the road for a drink one day, and the free bikes on our first day made it easy to explore the flat, bike-friendly island. Kos Town is about a 30-minute walk away. We also had a gyros at Sourasis Steakhouse that a local recommended, and it lived up to the tip (€4.50 for a gyros). The sunset trip to Zia was another highlight (€15). We booked a three-island boat trip on Byron Boat through the hotel (€40), which turned into one of our best days, and the hammam spa with an extra massage was relaxing. For a quieter beach day, Costa Angela Beach Bar had €5 sunbeds and a laid-back feel. We chose this hotel for a relaxed adults-only break with a bit of access to Kos Town, and it suited us well. The airport transfer was short, and the modern, clean hotel was lovely to look at. We liked having the garden-view room option and gym access available. The hotel was small and easy to get around, never felt crowded or overwhelming, and the flower-filled gardens and immaculate pool area made it calming. We enjoyed seeing the well-behaved cats around the grounds too. The staff made us feel welcome throughout. Someone on the breakfast team remembered our preferred drink, and reception were attentive and went out of their way to help. The rooms were cleaned to a high standard each day, and the whole place felt spotless. We also visited the sister hotel, which confirmed we’d picked the right one for the kind of stay we wanted. There were a few things that could be better. A group by the pool was loud at times, playing football and music. They were enjoying their holiday, but it didn’t fit the relaxed mood and some guests seemed uncomfortable. It could help if the hotel gently reminded guests what atmosphere it aims for. Breakfast was fine but could have more variety, especially fresh fruit like berries, and some nuts and seeds. The gym details were confusing. The hotel website gave the impression it was included, while the travel agent site mentioned possible extra charges for some activities. We partly chose the hotel because we thought gym access was included. We also needed to book a time slot and use the gym at the sister hotel, which wasn’t clearly explained beforehand. It would be helpful to make this clearer and more consistent across booking sites. We were two friends looking for a peaceful break, and overall that’s what we got. With clearer information and a bit more breakfast variety, it would be an excellent relaxed adults-only choice in Kos.

With no through traffic, the hotel grounds were quiet, though the Greek chickens made some noise. We stayed for a week and were generally quite satisfied. The two rooms were very clean, breakfast was nice, and the staff were fairly friendly and helpful. If only the Greeks would bring their plumbing up from Minoan times to today's standards. Everything worked, but...

The food choice was great, and the kitchen team were exceptional. Everyone was helpful, and the place was spotless, with the maid coming every day. Reception staff were wonderful, especially Electra and Slava. What’s not to love? 10 out of 10, I’ll definitely go back.

The restaurant food was lovely, especially the gnocchi. Vegetarian options were a bit limited, but the team was happy to take meat out of dishes for us. We also got a complimentary dessert, which wasn’t necessary but was delicious. Huge compliments to the chef. Yamas! The staff made the stay special. Slava’s big smile and willingness to talk meant a lot, and she kept us updated about a small check-in issue so we knew we were being heard. Maria at breakfast and lunch was fabulous and made us feel welcome each morning. We missed both women on their days off. They’re a credit to the hotel. I had an incredible stay at the Apollon Windmill Hotel and was really sad to leave. I’d highly recommend it.

The evening meals were poor quality and often too salty, and service in the half-empty restaurant was slow. Breakfast was good, with a range of choices. We stayed half-board for 10 nights, arriving after midnight, and were first put in a really small room just above the kitchen. The kitchen noise woke us early the next morning. We asked to move to a bigger room, and they did move us. We asked the sister hotel about using its facilities, mainly the buffet restaurant, and were told we couldn’t, even though its website mentioned it. We took them at face value, but there was no information at our reception or from the receptionists. Later we found out we could have used the sister hotel, The Apollon. They just don’t advertise it. The welcome back was basic, and communication was lacking. We got little information about food and dining choices, and the poor food and slow restaurant service spoiled the whole holiday for us. In hindsight, we should have booked bed and breakfast. We ate out most nights, which made the holiday cost more than we’d budgeted for. We won’t be visiting the Apollon Windmill again. Very disappointing.
