Those pillows were unbelievably comfortable, and the pool and bar staff were nice. It was quiet, a good place to relax, and we felt we got what we paid for. The owner was the problem: he was rude when we switched on the jacuzzi bubbles, and later told us to turn off music that people around the pool were enjoying and singing along to. A little respect for paying guests wouldn’t go amiss.

Breakfast was meagre, just a few slices of bread and toppings per person. At the pool, the owner said our 1.5-year-old son was “uninsured” and could only use the kids’ pool. When we raised the problems, we were told to “pack our bags and leave” if we weren’t happy, so we left after one night instead of staying the two weeks we’d booked. The shower was broken and flooded the stone floor. Our son slipped and hit his head twice before the promised bathroom mats arrived the next day. This was the most unpleasant and unsafe hotel stay we’ve ever had. I’d never recommend it, especially to families with children.

The pool looked brilliant lit up at night. Everything else was a disaster, and my partner was in tears. Cockroaches were in the room, the bathroom flooded during showers and became slippery, and the taps and shower heads were rusty and dirty. Air conditioning cost extra and could only be paid for in cash. Cockerels were everywhere, keeping us up and waking us in the morning. Staff were ridiculously slow. Our one dinner there took more than 2 hours. The hotel is poorly situated if you want to see Kos, and we’d have needed a bike or car because taxis just never turn up.

Breakfast was my one disappointment. As an Aegean, I expected better tomatoes, cucumbers, olives and feta on a Greek island. Improve that and Sandy's Studios would be a 10/10 place. The staff were cheerful and helpful with all kinds of issues, and the rooms and shared areas were clean and tidy. It’s a great choice for a quiet, peaceful holiday. I’d still recommend it, and you won’t regret staying.
