Windmill Villa

My husband and I spent two and a half days at the Koufonissi Windmill Villa for our honeymoon. It felt wonderfully secluded, with uninterrupted Aegean views, the cicadas, and the occasional fishing boat, yet the village edge and port are only 300 metres away. It’s a rare mix of privacy and easy access on such a small island. The welcome was personal from the start. Roses and honeymoon decorations were waiting inside, along with a selection of local treats. Thanks again, Christos, for such thoughtful hospitality. As a gay couple, we felt welcomed and celebrated, and the respect and care meant a lot to us. The old working windmill is a protected monument of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and has been an A-class residence since 2002. Its restoration keeps the Cycladic character, with thick whitewashed walls and small shuttered windows, while adding quality linens, a well-equipped kitchen, and comfortable spaces that frame the sea. It’s bright, clean, and more spacious inside than you might expect, with a spare bedroom that would suit couples travelling with friends. We left feeling as if we’d found a secret. The villa is affordable, culturally significant, and in a particularly photogenic corner of the Aegean. It would work well for small groups, too. Staying here felt like living inside a piece of maritime history, in a place full of beauty and privacy.
