Amalia Apartments

The nearby restaurants and beaches are amazing, in a super beautiful area. This clean, cheerful little complex is run by lovely staff who are so kind and really care about guests having a good time. Thank you, everyone. For a young family, it has almost everything we needed: a basketball hoop, football goals, a playground, a pool, and a bar serving drinks and ice cream. Simple snacks would have been handy, though you can buy them at the hotel next door or make food in the self-catering rooms. The rooms are basic, as the reasonable price suggests, but spacious and cleaned daily.

The apartment was amazing, kept clean and looked after by the cleaning staff every day. All the staff, including George and Otis, were extremely friendly and helpful. George and I had a really good laugh with some football banter on our last night. Georges bar had the cheapest beers on the island that we found, at €4. The next cheapest was €5. Thanks to everyone for a fantastic holiday!

Koukounaries beach was a highlight, with lovely sand and calm, clear water. From the main road it’s a 10-minute walk through a cutting. Malaraki beach and Agia are smaller but just as beautiful, about 20-30 minutes from the main road. Their sunbeds and parasols cost 14 and 15 euros. On the main road, The Big Bad Wolf at the top of the hill has a good range of food and very nice staff; the Italian place next door serves good food too. We also enjoyed the beautiful harbour in the Old Town, with yachts on one side and restaurants looking over the water on the other. Beyond them are cobbled lanes, shops, boutiques, a church and more places to eat. The bus there takes about 30 minutes and costs 3 euros each way. We took a couple of boat trips, Island Hopping and sea and sun. Fantastic holiday, and we’ll definitely return. We had a lovely two weeks at Amelia Apartments, a good base with hardworking staff who were constantly on the go. The apartments are by bus stop 23, down an unadopted road about 7-10 minutes from the main road. Wear comfortable shoes for the stony, uneven walk. There is some lighting, but it gets quite dark in places; you do get used to it. Our room was generous in size. The pool was lovely, but in the second week it was hard to relax there. Footballs were kicked across the pool and hit us several times, and there were so many inflatables that there was barely room to move.

We had a great-value, peaceful break here. The brothers are great and really helpful, and there’s no road noise. The apartments are basic, as in much of Greece, but clean. The bar is very reasonably priced. They don’t serve food or snacks, which was the only downside, though there must be a reason. The place is 400m from the coach drop-off, but Jet 2 delivers your luggage. Take a torch and bug spray for the bumpy lane: it has lights, but some are out. The windows and French doors all have flyscreens. We didn’t have any mosquito trouble during the day, but since it’s in the forest, evenings can be a bit different.
