Aliakmon Hotel

The city centre being so close was about the only thing that helped make this stay work for me. My room was the dirtiest I experienced in 2023, with dust everywhere, and I can only hope it was just dust. The underground parking was full when I visited, so I ended up parking almost a kilometre away. The lift was tiny, barely enough for two people and one suitcase. For this kind of experience, I found it very expensive. The fridge was tragically small and squeezed into an awful spot. I won’t get into the air conditioning, just look at the photo.

A useful stop for travellers passing through. The town centre is an easy walk, and there’s a local garage for guests.

The location is handy and the price is reasonable, but the service was very poor apart from one man on the afternoon shift. Guests also get very little information about hotel services or rules. We had no idea that eating a pastry and drinking coffee in the foyer seating area wasn’t allowed, and a staff member was quite rude and accused us of behaving “unacceptably.” If someone had told us, we’d have taken it to our room or gone outside. There was a strong cigarette smell in both the rooms and foyer, so if that bothers you, give this place a miss. It made me think staff might be smoking inside too.

The price is good and breakfast was decent, and the night staff member was really helpful. The hotel itself is nice, but some fittings, like the bathroom or bed, feel worn. The water was cold at night and again in the morning. Fine for an overnight stop in town.
